Since upgrading my PB to 10.3.8 about a week ago, I've seen a number
of cases of a hangup that never happened before. What happens is I
open up the lid, it wakes up, the screen settles down, I try to use
the trackpad - and nothing happens. Tests then show that the button
and all of the keyboard are also dead.
I can see that the system is alive. Things like the Activity Monitor
are running and changing, and similarly with anything that makes any
changes to the screen. The clock and battery gauge work, for example.
Closing the lid and re-opening it has no effect; the keyboard, trackpad
and button are permanently non-functional.
The only thing I've found that works is a reboot.
Has anyone else seen this? A scan of article titles seems to show
nothing relevant. But this could be because I'm not spotting whatever
terminology others might have used.
This had happened every day or two. I probably open the machine up
5 or 6 times per day, so it's not all that often. But it's a real
pain to lose everything that's running, including the web pages that
I was in the middle of reading ...

The terminology is "wake from sleep" and "frozen", and there has been a
lot of talk about this sort of thing. I have not seen any explanation or
solution. It seems to affect a lot of people on a lot of different
machines. m.
PS Is this PB connected to a printer that is on, or any other peripheral
that it might be hunting for? This is just a wild theory.
