As I noted in an earlier post, when I've tried to download several new
pieces of software I get the error message: The application Stuffit
Expander has unexpectedly quit.

No obvious fixes, but I don't particularly need to use this program if
something else will work. What are the good alternatives (for 10.3.8)?
Don't need anything fancy. I just want to be able to download and
install things like Windows Media Player 9.

Thanks,
CS

Have you tried reinstallling it? Go to http://www.stuffit.com and have a
look-see for the free part (the Expander). Alternatively, use Find to
locate every pref file related to StuffIt that you can find and
(re-)move them.

StuffIt is kinda the standard, so if you can get it to work, it makes
life easier.
