Don't get me wrong; I love FireFox. I use it on my office G5 without any
problems at all... but ....

On my home desktop G4 the FireFox password manager - doesn't. I set it up
in exactly the same way as I did on the G5, and it's clearly active in
Preferences; but it just doesn't kick in when it should... actually, it
/sometimes/ does; but on other occasions, even though it already knows a
site's password, it'll sit silently and force me to type it in again.

I hadn't realised what a pain it was to keep typing passwords (eBay, are
you listening?)

Has anyone any idea what I should do to get Password Manager working - please?!

I had a different problem with Firefox.  the easiest cure is to just
remove the copy you are using and down load a pristine copy and start
over.

One other thing, in this day of "stolen" passwords and such things, I
have stopped storing such on our computer and enter them each time I
want to log on to a site that requires such.
