School is running Novell Groupwise for email. I am running a G3 iMac
with 10.2.8 (one of the few remaining Macs) and using MacMail. When the
switch to Groupwise was first made, I had no problems with Mail. Now I
am only able to send within the network. I can not send out to the
internet. Am able to get email from within the network or the internet
without problems. All my settings are as they were. Tech person is high
as a kite cause he is finally getting rid of all those Macs and vows no
support for Mail cause it is unsupported software. I can not remember
how many times I have helped this person with a Mac porblem but memories
are short, I guess!
Any thoughts or ideas to get my mail out?.....tia.....Rich

I'm afraid I have the same problem. Apple's Mail app worked for a while
connecting to the Novell Groupwise server for in and outgoing mail, but
something changed, and now it will not send outgoing mail through
Groupwise. I have to use my home private Time Warner Road Runner
account to send outgoing mail. Incoming still works. I have no idea
what the problem is. Sorry.

The "something" that probably changed (as in bink's case) is that
Open Relaying (which is quite a hassle to deal with when you're a
system admin... google <open relay black holes> and enjoy the
tomes of explanations why open relaying is BAD) was turned off due
to a spammer hijack :E ... several attempts to utilize the free
black hole service didn't work :/ , so realying HAD to be stopped
to provide a usable POP3 service... a good workaround is to create a
separate account in the 3rd-party email client that uses a different
SMTP host(in bink's case the main gateway)...
