Ipod Playlists

I have been trying to get playlists on the Ipod. I know how to make
playlists on the Ipod software on the PC but it will not upload them to
my Ipod - ie what use is this - I need the playlists on the Ipod not
the PC! If I add a new file the software uploads automatically. I
cannot select 'Update Ipod' as this option does not appear.

What computer and OS are you using? Do you have the latest version of
iTunes? Check the preferences and make sure it says "update iPod
automatically" and check around for a choice between "update only
selected playlists" or "update whole library". If you only update
selected playlists you might have loaded none into the iPod. What
happens when you drag a playlist icon onto the iPod icon? On the iPod,
when you see the "playlists" menu item, are you clicking the center
button or the play button?
