Mac iTunes 8 Import Bit Rate

As usual, I'm up against a hard deadline when I decide to import a CD to
iTunes for the first time since upgrading to version 8.  For the life of
me, I can't find where to change the importing bit rate in the
Preferences and Advanced.

I really have to jet having already spent too much time searching.  I'm
cynical and fatalistic enough to admit up-front that it's probably right
in front of my nose.   <sigh>

I dug out an old CD with the intent to rip a song at a higher bit rate
and less/no compression than was already in my library.  I decided that,
considering how cheap hard-disk drive space has become, I might as well
rip it near to or at lossless and go from there.  As long as I'm doing
one track, why not all of them?

After mounting the disk, I clicked the [import] button and it began
importing immediately.  If it's what I last used, that's fine and good
enough.  I would, however, like to get my former choices back?  Where
did they go?  TIA

Thank-you and the OP for your measured reply.  As I suspected, it was
right under my nose all along.  I'm such a maroon...   <sigh>

iTunes 8 tripped me up on that one at first too. I don't find it the
most logical location in prefs.

iTunes Preferences -> General, click the Import Settings button.  (It's
in the "When you insert a CD" section.)
