"This update improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues. It is recommended for all users of [INSERT PROGRAM NAME HERE].
That's what I've been yearning for from iWeb, iTunes, iLife, iWork, I-and-I and I-for-an-I.
And it's here, thank Jesus, it's here!

Anyon can add entries to VersionTracker and MacUpdate. "Not necessarily" is correct. The descriptive text provided by VersionTracker and MacinTouch is culled straight off Apple's website. For instance:
> • iLife Support 8.3
iLife Support provides system software > components shared by all iLife '08 applications. This update improves [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > improves overall stability, and addresses a number of other minor > issues.
[Req. QuickTime 7.5 and Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later] But the "not necessarily" is still true: Someone may have hacked their way into the Apple site 10 minutes after they made the files available and removed detailed lists of bug-fixes replacing with the generic lines. It's possible!
Signature Thank you and have a nice day.

It's possible! You mean that might have happened? Sheesh! Here's how you know it didn't. The world's media--audio, video, and print--did not drop all other stories and devote entire programs or print issues to Apple being hacked. Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite were not brought back to provide minute-by-minute coverage. Rush didn't blame the Jews, the handicapped, African Americans, or so-called liberals. The McBush crowd didn't start a smear campaign blaming that Muslim terrorist Obama. Fox "News" didn't have to call in extra liars to augment the ones they have. Cheney didn't blame Iran. Iran didn't blame Zionists. Nobody blamed Bill or Hillary. Al Gore isn't working on a new movie. Bin Laden didn't release a taped statement saying it was the will of Allah. And Dubya won't learn about it a few weeks from now.
That's how you know that Apple's web site wasn't hacked.

It's possible! Certainly possible. For example, Apple's marketing people might hack into the explanatory messages that go with various software upgrades and replace them with canned sales pitches for the associated software.
See example below, from earlier this year:
============================== Two roughly 50 MB software updates appeared on my MacBook Tiger desktop yesterday: QuickTime 7.4.5 and iTunes 7.6.2. As you select each of these, a message explaining why the update is needed or what it will do appears in a box lower down in the update window.
Here's the explanatory message for QuickTime 7.4.5:
> QuickTime 7.4.5 includes fixes that enhance reliability, improve > compatibility with third-party applications, and address security issues. > This release is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users. > > For detailed information on the security content of this update, please visit > this website: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n61798. And here's the complete "explanatory" message for iTunes 7.6.2:
> Rent and download your favorite movies with iTunes on your computer or > directly to your living room on Apple TV. Enjoy rented movies in sizes up to [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > iTunes 7.6.2 provides bug fixes to improve stability and performance. ============================================

I can't recall any time in recent years when a pointer to the detailed description wasn't published at the same time the summary was released.

Do you use your Front Row remote often?

You're aware that Mac OS X has Input Manager vulnerabilities, right? And ignoring that, with the relative sheer power given to Input Managers in Mac OS X, I really have to wonder why anyone would want to risk running one unless absolutely necessary. This one in particular seems to be malfunctioning, and affecting many applications, because of the way Input Managers work. I strongly suggest you learn about Input Managers so you can make an informed decision about whether you want to run anything that requires one in the future.

You might want to go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/
Drill down on ANY of the topics and the last thing on the bottom right is a "Still Need Help?" panel where you can chat with a mobileme technician/fry cook. I was pointed there by a stumped Apple tech from their help line. He said, if it's greyed out, they are all booked up, but when it isn't you can chat with someone.
I stared at it off and on for a day. But the newest "updates", having closed at least some bugs might clear that button up for access. I'm unsure if there is a phone-line to mobile me. I'd chase it down.
