The power went out at my house.  I have voice over internet. Now my GE
24 GHz phone screen readout says, "Out of Range".  I have disconnected
my modem, router and Lynksis adapter and phone connection then
reconnected them.  I still get the same readout.  I have no other
phone to use to say call my ISP or VOIP.  What should I try to do?
Please help. Earl Williams,  Surrey, British Columbia

This doesn't sound like a VoIP issue.  It sounds like an issue between
your cordless phone handset and base station.

It's possible that your cordless phone base station is just dead, but
there's no way of telling from the information provided.  I guess I'd
probably check to see if any lights on it come on, and if it seems to
be getting power ... if not I'd say you're in the market for a new
phone, or maybe you could ask on sci.electronics.repair about fixing
it.

At any rate I don't think it's a problem on your Mac that would be
causing the handset to not "see" the base.

I have no doubt at all that you're correct about this. The OP may need
to buy a new phone, but I've had this symptom once or twice, and
removing and reinstalling the batteries fixed it. The problem is
certainly related to the phone itself, though, not the Mac, router,
modem, ISP, or VOIP provider.
