I forgot the password to login on my laptop. I went to an
electronic store and they sold me the new OS for it and said itt was
easy to install. It still boots up to the login screen. Is there a way
to get the cd to boot up first?

insert the DVD, and when the computer is booting up HOLD DOWN the C key
until you see the Apple logo screen and the gear starts to spin

You can reset the password without re-installing the operating system.
