I decided to give MTM a run for its money and I am impressed. It is a
nice newsreader and for free!

One question, it seems the Binary Decoder helper Apps are missing on my
system is this relevant?

I'm running a Core Duo Imac

So is the excellent documentation ;)

In short: it depends. MT-NW can decode some formats by itself. You only
need external "helper apps" if you prefer those to MT-NW's built-in
capabilities, or if you download stuff in formats MT-NW does not know
how to decode by itself.

Absolutely correct, excellent documentation I should have looked harder:-)

What I have noticed i that there are some binaries (few but some) that The
Hog won't display in line. It works ok with Extract Binaries though. Any idea
why? I don 't have any examples around now and it is question borne more of
curiosity than anything else. It does not really interfere with my work flow.

Many thanks

I've lost it my reference to The Hog above should have been a reference to MT
Newswatcher. By trying a new app I'm confusing myself, sorry:-(

IIRC MT-NW relies entirely on QuickTime for this. So what QuickTime
cannot handle, possibly simply because you don't have a necessary codec
installed, MT-NW cannot display.

Where did that bracketed stuff come from?

I believe Sander added it.

I think <ins> stands for "insert" actually.  Of course, only Sander
knows for sure!

Correct. It's HTML syntax. (The OP accidentally wrote "The Hog" where he
meant MT-NW.)
