If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Worse I just get Apple support bable on about the sound prefs in Sys
Prefs (nothing to do with MIDI input! Arrrgh...) and local Apple Centre
staff telling me about sound cards!?!? *headdesk*

I haven't had the pleasure of doing much music with my Macs yet, so I'm
afraid I can't offer any experiential wisdom. I grew up with music - my
dad was a R&B musician and Mac user - he played in New Orleans here and
there and produced lots of music with his Macs. I'd ask him about your
issue, but he passed away a few years ago. : / I don't have a whole
lot of his things, but I am blessed to have his music equipment (a
keyboard, a few of his favorite guitars, and some other stuff). One of
these days when I have more free time, I'm going to set up his equipment
and start dabbling a bit! Anyhow, I digress...
It seems like once a MIDI device is properly connected, you should be
able to assign it to a track in a GarageBand project fairly easily. I
wonder if the Audiotrak MidiMate is part or all of the problem. A quick
search shows that others are successfully using the Yamaha P-120 with
different MIDI interfaces:

No worries - I digress like mad, myself, and rather like it when others
do so :-)

Maybe you're right - perhaps the MidiMate is at fault *shrug* Can anyone
tell me what is supposed to happen? GB's help says nothing useful.

I also tried using a midi keyboard with Audio Midi Setup and Garageband.
Either I've had a lobotomy or it was one of the most unintuitive
programs I've ever used. Couldn't get anything to work. Is there
another (very simple for us dummies) programs that might be a little
easier to get started? I've got a great grand piano sample on my
computer which I'd like to try with it. I might as well by preparing a
launch to the nearest galaxy with all the success I'm having.
