I'm editing a very long document, and I am looking for words and
phrases that repeat, and I want to do this in one fell swoop, like
Textanz does. Any way to do this on a Mac? I use Word for Mac, but
would consider switching to a word processor if it had this feature.

I'm not familiar with Textanz, but if it's a program that lets you type
a couple of pre-assigned characters to enter those longer words and
phrases, there's:

TextExpander

SpellCatcher X also includes this functionality

Textanz is a distinctive name, so a Google search found it quickly:

It's not a typing aid, it's a text analyzer.  It reports various
statistics about a document, such as how often each word or phrase
occurs.

I'm not aware of any Mac software that does everything Textanz does, but
I found a couple of utilities that report word frequency:

Oh well. Yes, I could have done a Google search, too, but someone
wanting help shouldn't force people to jump through hoops for him.

For search,, or for modification?

TextWrangler has a "show all occurrences" option in search.

It also allows regular expressions for search and replace.

Word itself has a limited wild-card ability.

Anything too sophisticated for TextWrangler, I dump to plain text and
use grep/perl/awk/etc.
