iTunes stop downloading podcasts

OK, so I subscribe to a few podcasts that I listen to in large chunks of
20 or more podcasts at once.  That is to say, I don't listen every day. Or
if I do, I listen on my iPod and it only gets synched every month or so.

iTunes insists on 'helpfully' ceasing to download these podcasts after a
period of time and I cannot find any setting that says "stop being helpful,
just download this podcast forever and ever no matter what."

Such a thing exist, somehow?  Or a workaround that doesn't involve my
remembering to go in ever couple of weeks and 'touch' a podcast?

Obviously, this isn't an issue with timely podcasts, but with things like
Coverville where I just fit in the show when I can I'm like a year behind.

I draw the line at 7 unreturned phone calls.

Choose Select All when in your Podcast library ... right click and
choose Mark As Not New. Takes 2 seconds and only needs to be done every
few weeks (or depending on podcast frequency). There's probably an
Applescript that could do this for you after each podcast downloads.
Google "dougs itunes scripts" ... if someone's done one already you
should find it there.

has the exact same effect as playing a podcast (or even starting to play
a podcast) and still requires manual intervention.

Not that I've been able to find.

Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards for they are subtle and quick to
    anger.

You've not looked very hard ... a few seconds found:

Is this the kind of thing?

or on Dougs Scripts site:

Update Expired Podcasts v1.0
iTunes will stop updating a podcast if you have not listened to at least
one of its episodes in five days. This script will batch-update every
podcast, rather than having to manually update each one individually.
(Actually, you could run this script to update all subscribed podcasts
anytime.)

Hmm.. I did not find that.  But then again, i was searching at Doug's scripts.

BTW, anyone else who checks that link.  Do not use the script in the hint,
use the one in the comments that Doug Smith wrote.  Much better, and faster
too.

Hmm... perhaps 'expired' would have been a good word to search for.

Thanks for the pointer.

You know, in a world in which Bush and Blair can be nominated for the Nobel
Peace Prize, "for having dared to take the necessary decision to launch a
war on Iraq without having the support of the UN" I find myself agreeing
with Tom Lehrer: satire is dead. - Neil Gaiman

I'm glad you got something that helped resolve your issue, HTH.
