Macbook Pro Leopard 10.5.2 all updates

MAIL arrival sound has become sporadic...sometimes it works...sometimes not.
All normal checking has been made in preferences, sounds, etc. No
improvement.
Checked Mac forums. Known issue and widely reported for Leopard.
Anyone have this issue or possibly discovered how to fix it, or is it
simply a matter of waiting for the Apple fix to come on down?
Thanks

I use the following fix: I wrote this AppleScript:

on run
 say "You've got new mail"
end run

and saved it as a script in the MailScripts folder. Then I made filter
in Mail that catches all incoming mail and runs the script.

Unfortunately, AppleScript cannot simply play a sound, so that is why
this is the easiest option. If you do want to play a specific sound,
that is possible but needs a bit more work. You need to use a special
application called 'Play Sound' and script that to play the sound file.

Hi Johan;
Thank you for the reply. I'm not all that Mac savvy, but I've copied
this out for further study.
