Is there anyway to have the today block in the month view highlighted
or even a different color ,when you open ical you have to search for
the correct day?

It does open with "today" highlighted on my Mac OS X 10.5.2. Maybe your
highlight color is off.

I don't understand exactly what you're asking, since iCal does highlight
today when you open it, in whichever view you last used when you closed
it, and, in switching views, today remains highlighted. This is in
Leopard 10.5.2, but I don't recall the behavior being any different in
previous versions.

The highlight is not obvious enough on my LCD monitor, but it is there.

I have 2 monitors set up as an extended desktop and did not initially
have them both set to the exact same color setup. When iCal was in
the left monitor, the highlighted day was very faint. However, when
it was in the right monitor, the highlight was very clear. I think
that your problem is one that has been mentioned before and the
simplest solution (until someone writes a hack to alter the
highlighting function) is to adjust your monitor slightly. I adjusted
my monitors to be more similar and the iCal issue is, for all intents
and purposes, gone.
