retrospect or dvd drive problem?

Hi.

Running MacOS X 10.4.11 on a G4 800 MHz iMac ...

For a while, I have been using Retrospect to backup to DVDs.  A couple
of days ago, I upgraded Retrospect to version 6.1.138.  I have just
attempted to do a backup---probably the first backup since the
upgrade.

After Retrospect scans the volume to be backed up, it tells me that
the backup DVD is locked (read-only).  I am not sure how to unlock
same, or whether this is possible.  Moreover, I tried one of
Retrospect's suggestion, namely, to use a new DVD.  (Since the current
DVD was called "6 iMac Backup Set A", the DVD that I inserted was then
named "7 iMac Backup Set A".)  However, Retrospect reported that the
*new* DVD was locked.

Just for fun, I tried to simply burn a CD (not using Retrospect).
This worked fine.  This being the case, I suspect that the problem is
more likely to be with Retrospect than with the drive.

Does anybody have any experience with this version of Retrospect?
Any suggestions for what I should do here?

Thanks.

Did you try your test using a DVD? Doing the test with a CD doesn't tell
you much because different mechanisms are used within the same optical
disc drive for burning DVDs and CDs. Try simply burning data to a DVD
disc without Retrospect and see if that works. You also might have bad
batch of DVD discs, so when you do this test, use a disc from a
different package.

Hi.

Here's the solution, courtesy of Peter Teeson:

You need to get an earlier driver.
Go to the retrospect web site at
