I bought mine at an update price, not new.

Alsoft has an upgrade price listed, and they also say "Free CD Updater
Available soon for Version 4.0."

Odd that you would take the time to post here without so much as looking
at the web site.

You must be a registered user to qualify for the upgrade price. Check
your last disk for your registration number and enter it as required
when requesting an upgrade. I upgrade each time possible. Could skipping
upgrades have disqualified you?

I have 4.0.  It is an upgrade that is free "SOON".  Just waiting and
waiting.

Still new folks get 4.1 Leopard compatible.

Macintouch touched on this a while back and I was wondering if  anyone
had a clue now.

You _can_ use ver. 4.0 along with Leopard. but you also must boot from
the CD and not run it from the harddisk, if you fx. have more disks to
test/repair.

I have done this on my QuickSilver dual 1,8ghz running 10.5.2. It works,
wehn booted from the Cd, bt not if I run it from the 10.5 bootdisk.

That notice has been there for many weeks.  I bought the 4.0 disk (plus
every single previous version) thinking it was for Leopard.  But I've
never been able to use it.  If 4.1 is available on CD, I cannot think of
a good reason why that notice has been on the Alsoft website for many
weeks now but they have not posted the downloadable update.  Can you?

I had a lot of problems caused by the Apple software updates that
immediately preceded the 10.5.2 release and Disk Utility really choked
trying to fix them.  I need DW to rebuild my directory now--- before I
can install 10.5.2.  This has certainly taught me a lesson to never
install a new OS unless I have a working copy of DW in my hands first.

Also kind of inconvenient that they will only mail you the upgrade CD
from v3 to v4.  They will not allow it to be downloaded.  Site says it
can take up to 30 days.  I am (impatiently) awaiting my copy.

Anyone know the business reason why they will sell it new via download,
but not the upgrade?

I got this email from Alsoft today:
------------------------------------------------
As stated on the Alsoft website at:

 http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/support.html

Owners of DiskWarrior 4 version 4.0 will soon be able to download a free
CD updater. When available, this free updater will allow you to create a
new startup CD containing the updated DiskWarrior application.

I have been given no information other than what is posted.

For reference, you can use the current DiskWarrior 4.0 with Mac OS X
10.5.x (Leopard).  You are not stuck without using DiskWarrior until
version 4.1 is in your hands.  You can read more information about this
at the aforementioned webpage.

Be careful there.  I believe the correct statement is that you can use
the current version of DW on a Leopard filesystem _if_ you are running
from Tiger,  Use of DW 4.0 while _running_ Leopard is not recommended.

As I said, that is the email I got, unedited.

And if you continue to read the support page you'll find:
What you can expect when running DiskWarrior 4 version 4.0 under Mac OS
X 10.5 and rebuilding a Leopard disk.

While not recommended (and discouraged), if you do run DiskWarrior
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
version 4.0 while started from Mac OS X 10.5 you might encounter some
problems such as:
1) You cannot rebuild FileVaults or disk images.
2) In step 9 (comparing directories) of a rebuild, the progress bar
might get to 100% even though the comparison step is not finished
  and will continue to execute.
3) When performing Check All Files and Folders the progress bar might
get to 100% even though the check is not finished and will continue
  to execute.
4) After rebuilding a disk, DiskWarrior may report that some files
or folders have had their permissions changed. This is inaccurate
and the permissions have not been changed.

To repeat, an updated version of DiskWarrior that has complete Leopard
compatibility will be released soon as a free download for existing
owners of DiskWarrior 4 version 4.0.

I paid for my upgrade disc 4.1, less than an unregistered user would pay
for it new. I was in a hurry, because 4.0 stalled in repairing. I have
never known of a free, downloadable upgrade. I suppose if they are now
promising one, they owe it to those who are patiently waiting. I expect
a radical upgrade for OS 10.5.

There were several free downloadable upgrades of version 3.

I don't remember rejecting it in favor of buying upgrades, but I may
have. My collection of four bought discs has copyrights as early as 2003
but no version numbers on the earlier discs, and I don't have time to
reboot with each one and wait for the version number to appear. My
serial number is the same on each.

We're talking about free downloadable updates, which were available for
DW 3.x.

Regarding AV3's note about his serial. this simply means that he has
bouht the three last versions as upgrades to the first one. Alsoft sold
these versions until now on CD.
- Diskwarrior 1.0. Downloadable update to ver. 1.0.1
- DiskWarrior 2.0, Downloadable updates to 2.0.1 and 2.0.3.
- DiskWarrior 2.1, Downloadable updates to ver. 2.1.1 and 2.1.2
- Diskwarrior 3.0/3.0.1. Downloadable update to 3.0.3. No other
downloadable updates. The only differences between the 3.0 and 3.0.1 is
the extension for Os 9.2 is a newer one in 3.0.1. The 3.0.3 contains the
same Os 9.2 extension as the full ver. 3.0.1
- Diskwarrior 4.0. No downloadable updates so far. Bootsystem on ver.
4.0 changed from 10.3.5 to 10.4.3, so it can boot on IntelMacs.

I have all CDs right here...

There is only _1_ free update to ver. 3. That one is to be used either
for the diskwarrior 3.0 or 3.0.1. The update is a ver. 3.0.3 and fixes
some problems in 3.0/3.0.1 that could prevent a 'Replace' of the rebuilt
filesystem on OS X 10.4.3 and higher.

And from notes that i got from Alsoft, a new downloadable ver. of DW 4.0
will be available in the same way...

cheers, Erik Richard

Currently only the 3.0.3 update is available for download, as there
would be no purpose in updating to an earlier 3.0.x version, but the
3.0.1 and 3.0.2 updates were available for download when they were the
latest available.
