How to download/save a video clip?

Our non-profit agency was interviewed on local TV. The TV station has
the clip on their web site, but it says it will go away after 2
weeks.

Is there any way for me to capture that video clip, so I can put it
on
our web site (after getting permission, etc) ?

It's at:
http://media.vmsnews.com/MonitoringReports/021108/522486/G001319960/

How would I download or capture a video clip?

Thank you,
Bill

Not without the permission of the news station that owns the footage.
Get written permission from their attorney and ask for the footage.
Otherwise, anything you get will have the attorney contacting you not in
a good way.

click the downward arrow on the far right in the quicktime controller
and then pick save as source.

if you plan to post it, you *will* need permission, and they'll
probably supply you with a clip anyway, so the question is somewhat
moot.

*While* it's still downloading?   Or after the downloading/buffering is
all completed?

Wait until the entire file has downloaded.

But this sort of thing won't work for youtube, as it doesn't come in
via QuickTime.  What does one do for these?

Dang!  It is a big wide wonderful world out there.  Is there anything
like this that makes use of a gui front-end?

From your terminal:

clive --configure

(hey, c'mon, it's Python).

If you're using Safari, you don't actually have download any third party
apps (unless you want to convert the format afterwards):

Otherwise, there are plenty GUI options to choose from:

Amazing!

"If you're using Safari, there's an easy way to download YouTube
videos. Open the page with the movie and press Command-Option-A, which
shows the Activity window. If you're also loading other sites, you'll
see a list of them: scroll until you find the YouTube page and click on
the arrow to show details about what is being loaded.

"You will certainly notice an element whose size is over 0.5MB (most of
the time, over 5MB). Double-click on it (even if it is still loading),
and Safari will download it. When the download is over, navigate to the
file in the Finder (which will probably be called get_video) and add
the extension .flv to its name. Now you can play it with VLC or with
QuickTime (only if you have Perian installed)."

Yeah, that's cool, I had no idea. I mean, I knew the stuff was probably
in the cache, but I didn't know how to get at it.

You have to install the Python whatsits. Download clive-0.4.6.tar.gz and
unpack it and read the INSTALL.

http://home.gna.org/clive/dl.shtml

You'll also need the urlgrabber-3.1.0.tar.gz

http://linux.duke.edu/projects/urlgrabber/

These seem to work fine on 10.5.2 out-of-the-box with Python 2.5.1.

Thank you to Tom and Ms/Mr. NoSpam,

That worked! Click the right arrow and Save as QuickTime movie! That
was easy and I now have a Quick Time movie. However, the first time, I
played and saved it, maybe I have a slow DSL connection, it worked for
the first 5 minutes, then the audio and video became out of synch and
garbled, both while it was streaming and in the QT movie. When I did
it the 2nd time, they were only somewhat out of synch, about 4
seconds.

I suppose this is not the right group to ask how to do the 2nd step.
Unfortunately, my work runs our website on a Windows IIS server. How
do I host/set up to be played, on my web server, two video clips, one
is this QuickTime movie, the other is a .flv movie? I wonder if it
will work if I just put them in the folder and make a link to them?
OK, ignore this question, wrong list :-)

Firefox has several download helper addons that will grab video.
