iCab Killed My Trash

About a week ago, I downloaded the newest version of iCab. For some
reason that I now forget, I decided to put it in the trash and get rid
of it. Well since that that I've had a major problem with Trash. iCab is
still there, the icon of Trash is still there. I've tried getting rid of
other files and they eventually disappear, but the process for a long
while and I have to click repeatedly on messages about .nib files. Again
the iCab icons remain in the Trash.

I've tried to use other methods, such as unlocking the app, repairing
the permissions etc. None of this works. The only thing that I can think
of is to do a clean install and reformat the computer, but that's a
drastic measure. Does anyone have any idea that I can try before I have
to do the reformatting? TIA

Note: It would really help us if you would give us the verbatim error
message you see when you attempt to empty the trash.

The message you get is probably something like "Cannot delete xxx.nib
because the file is in use. That means iCab is still running. Do this:

1. Run /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.
2. In the Activity Viewer window, find and quit *all* iCab processes.
3. Empty the trash.

If you still get error messages when you try to empty the trash, try
logging out, logging back in, and emptying the trash.

If you still get error messages when you try to empty the trash, try
choosing Finder > Secure Empty Trash from the Finder menu bar.

If you still get error messages when you try that, give us the verbatim
error message in a reply to this post here.

You absolutely do NOT need to re-install your system!

Try holding down the option key while emptying the trash.

If that doesn't work, try this in Terminal from your admin account:

sudo rm -rf ~redhenk/.Trash  [where "redhenk" is your short user name]

Then log out of your user account and log back in.

1.  Try a secure delete with option held down.
2.  Try taking the iCab Junk out and putting it in a temp folder on
your desktop
3.  Restart
4.  Put new untitled folder in trash, then empty trash with just the
untitled folder
5.  If trash works normally, put temp folder with iCab Junk in trash
6.  Empty Trash, with option held down
7.  Secure Empty Trash

For some reason secure empty trash solves all of my trash problems.
For instance I get a file that says can't empty trash cause such n such
file is busy.  I goto secure empty trash and viola... works...

Those steps should work if not, try taking all that iCab junk out and
putting it back in a temp folder and then run disk utility from a
restart and repair...
