General Question About Newgroups/NewsWatcher

According to the Cmd + Cntl + Click on Subjects trick, I can see that
both my ISP hosts apparently do not receive or pass on most header
info (eg.NNTP-Posting-Host) on to my computer. Yet when I "Show
Details," the numbers for that particular header and many others
appear to be there.

Regardless, the filters for those headers don't work. Is there anyway
to set up filters for headers that only appear when showing details?

No.  The details show because you have downloaded the entire message and
not just the overview headers.  The only way to accomplish what you want
is to use something like an offline reader that automatically fetches
everything.

Or find a news server that allows the newsreader to fetch those
particular headers without downloading the entire message.  Which is
probably easier said than done.

So it's a server configuration thing?  I've never understood that
either.  Seem like it's time to Google "overview headers".

While its true that "you can't fix stupid", apparently you
can package it up and sell it. -- fnorgby on TMBO

Yep.  For example, here is what my server supports, as reported in the
Unison transcript window:

(12)-> LIST OVERVIEW.FMT
215 list follows
Subject:

You can't filter on what the server isn't configured to send (and,
annoyingly, Unison won't even let you filter on all available headers).

Well, no, because the send you the message after they've processed it.
If you want to filter on the headers section at your end, you'd have to
download _all_ the messages you want and then grep through them. Or run
your own little nntp server -- some people do that -- or use an
"offline" reader, about which I know nought.

I have it filtering on Path as well.

Ah, yes, another reason why I love MacSOUP.
