I have my MBP attached to set of Altec Lansing speakers that are
okay, but the Bang & Olufson ones behind me attached to my stereo. I
would like to have iTunes and Sirius Internet fed through the B&O from
my computer but running a line isn't really an option. So... anyone know
of a way to plug into the headphone jack, into a FM transmitter and then
to the stereo? All the ones that I can find work with cigarette
lighters, etc., for car use.

Yes. Works wonderfully. (And they all laughed 9 years ago when I dropped
Cat-5 wire inside the wall where my stereo rig is.)

Interesting.  I asked this question at the Apple Store and they did
not mention this. I wonder if I asked a different question.??

not having been there, i don't know what you asked :), but i am
surprised they didn't suggest it.  it's a very slick little device, and
with airfoil, any application can use it, which might have been what
threw them off, since officially it only works with itunes.

Either you asked a different question than you think you did or you were
talking to someone who didn't have a clue.  When Apple introduced the
Airport Express, this was THE feature they hyped.

Ia've already got Airport Extreme. I suppose that won't work...

You don't see a port on it to connect it to a stereo system, do you?
;-)

Nope. But then I don't necessarily know what to look for and could
always hope. (g).

The Airport Express has a port for a miniplug, the same port you see on
many audio devices.  You see nothing of the sort on an Express.

The Airport Express has something called AirTunes which is designed to do
this over ether or wi-fi.

So you want an FM transmitter that is powered either:

1) By battery (inside the device)
2) By USB (leeching power off the MBP's battery)

For #2 a Google search of "USB powered FM transmitter" yields:

http://www.soundwithoutwires.com/

http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-RocketFM-Transmitter-Mac-Computers/dp/B0007NWM06

Among others.

There are *lots* of choices for #1 - I'd suggest looking at eBay and
searching of FM transmitter - there are some that are sold for
automobile use that take a battery as well.

I personally bought one of these devices at Radio Shack a few years
ago - little blue device, ran off two AAA batteries.

As others have noted the best solution is an Airport Express - any
FM transmitter _will_ degrade the audio signal somewhat.

Your ears, your budget.
