Graphic Converter can't see my scanner

Anyone any idea why GC 6.0.2 can't see my Microtek Filmscan 2700? If I
go:

File -> acquire -> TWAIN device

then TWAIN device is greyed out.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 can see it no problem. I need this to move to
Leopard since PE 2.0 don't work under Leopard.

This is under 10.4.11 and using the latest driver I could find (7th Sept
07 from scanace).

TIA,

Thanks for that, as I was about to try and install it here.

When you say "doesn't work" do you mean it won't run at all?

It starts and you're all ready to think - "Hey, it *does* work" and then
it whinges about having done something illegal and finishes by saying
I'll get me coat and exits. I tried re-installing under L but to no
avail.

[sigh] Nuts. Time to upgrade then.

Thanks for the info. Good luck with your scanner.

I cannot comment on OS 10, but under 9 you need to have an alias icon
of VistaScan in the GC plugins folder in the Application Support
folder.

Determine where GC looks for the scanner and place the necessary alias
there and it should work.

Tried this also no dice. In fact tried both ideas (this + Rosetta)
together. Still no joy <sob>.

If you're on Intel then force GC to run under Rosetta (some Twain
drivers are not UB yet).

Tried this - no dice. Thanks though :-)

Err, prehaps try changing your TWAIN driver to VueScan (which will
probably improve quality too)?

I don't have any other bright ideas!

Yes, that is the bright idea :-)

is this Microtek Scanner working with a Photoshop Plug-in?

What Version of GraphicConverter (Universal Binary or PPC)?

GC UB does not support Photoshop Plug-Ins.

Use GC PPC instead...

I did some more research (I don't have the same scanner...)

The installer from
<http://www.scanace.com/download/Cyb_X_SF.htm>
installs among others a Photoshop plug-in to
Applications:Adobe Photoshop Elements
2:Zusatzmodule:Import/Export:8BAM-SF.Bundle:

You'll have to translate the german "Zusatzmodule" (additional modules)
to your version of PS Elements

Copy the file "8BAM-SF.Bundle" to
VolumeName:Library:Application Support:GraphicConverter:Plug-ins:

You should be able to scan with GraphicConverter PPC 6.0.2...

Andreas,

Thanks for your efforts. I found the file you mentioned and copied it as
suggested, but it *still* doesn't work with GC 6.0.2 PPC. But VueScan
looks like the way forward,

Thanks to all who commented.

Tim.

Tim,

Have you checked to see whether Image Capture recognizes your scanner?
If so, you can use Image Capture to do the scanning and have it hand
the scan off to GraphicConverter (I do this with an old Epson scanner
that GC and Photoshop don't deal well with on my MacBook under
Leopard). Image Capture has a control to specify which application
should receive the scanned image (defaults to Preview).

Yes, I had tried that but IC simply says there si no capture device
attached.

Scan with Photoshop, then.  I use the program I edit graphics with,
ColorIt.

I need this to work in order to move to Leopard since PE 2.0 don't work
under Leopard.

But Vuescan seems to be the answer.

As I recall, I had the same problem with a totally different scanner. Went to
the GC site and found that this is a known issue. TWAIN plugins don't work
right with GC. I forget the details, but I just gave up on trying to get it
to work.

OK. I think that VueScan must use a different communication method back
to Elements/GC. It started Elements for me when I chose that as its
Viewer.
