I noticed this on two different MacBooks after the 10.4.11 update.
Instead of sleeping, the computer shuts down and the next time I open
the lid, it restarts by itself.
I called Applecare and they said to uncheck the "Put hard disk to sleep
when possible" in the Energy Savings Control Panel. That did not help.
Anyone else notice this?

Not with 10.4.11, but with 10.5.0 on a MacBook Pro, except for the
restart. IOW, the MBP would shut down somehow during sleep.
The 10.5.1 update seems to have solved it.
