10.4.10 networked from older Macs

I've just made a jump to 10.4.10 (from 10.4.2) and now I find the
network connection from an older PPC (7300 running 9.1) cuts out after
about one minute. It's identical with two older machines.

Is there any way of working round this, network-wise, or is yet another
example of the dreaded Progress?

Thanks

Larry

The "defaults method" in
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305420>
worked for 10.4.9. I don't think 10.4.10 adds additional problems.
(Haven't tried yet after upgrading.)

Thanks for the lead, Niels I'll certainly try it out.

But just in case anyone else is going to try it, note: the actual
terminal command in that article 'appears' in an invisible font!

Just select the the section on the page, copy and paste it into dear
old BBEdit, or whatever, and you'll find it.

Sadly, it makes no difference. Good thing I still have those old Zip
drives!

The font is not invisible here. Anyway, I tried connecting from my old
Mac and Apple has indeed killed connectivity again.

I had the same problem when I bought one of these new-fangled OSX G4s
and tried to get my old-fangled 9600 (OS9.1 G3) to connect to it.

The solution I found was, instead of connecting the 9600 to the G4,
connect the G4 to the 9600 (if that makes sense). I went through Network
on OSX, connected to the 9600, mounted the disk I wanted and copied a
2GB folder over with no cut outs.

Hope this helps.

[pardon the top-posting but I'm following yours]

But those volumes just don't show up in my network window, nor can they
be raised via their files-sharing address. The network window used to
show them (in the Panther days I think it was) but not now. For the
last while it's been necessary to mount the G4 on the 7300 desktop.

Larry (not so happy about this!)

Is this an example of the "two wrongs make a right" theory at work?

No, Southern Hemisphere logic.
