Hello,

A friend sent me the following link to an app that looks too good to be
true, and that doesn't specify whether or not it works on the Mac:

http://animalelement.com/cbscysd?m=671378&l=0&n=Aall

Can anyone tell me if this is legit, and if so, if there's a Mac
version?

Thanks,
Eric

Who cares if that particular program works on Mac when there are plenty
of other perfectly-good Mac software titles that do the same thing?

In that case, I should have asked if ANY program exists that really
does this, because I'm initially skeptical of the possibility. I'll dig
deeper.

Thanks,
Eric

Which particular features are you skeptical about?

It doesn't add up in my mind that archiving to a CD would be
prefereable or advantageous to archiving to a DVD. I know that a DVD
will hold more data, and I am guessing that a DVD archive would also
have the potential for higher quality. I haven't done any research or
inquired of anyone in the know, so I'm interested in being enlightened
on this issue.

Thanks,
Eric

I went to that site, clicked on the FAQs link, and, all within the spend
of at most 5 seconds, found this:

"Is DVDx compatible with Macintosh?

"Currently, DVDx is not compatible with Macintosh systems. Check back
regularly, for updates!"

Yeah, it's not as if half a dozen other links on the home page lead you
to the system requirements.  Oh, wait a minute, they do.

Nope it's not for Mac, and about it being legit, well we all may make
copy's for ourself ;-)

The best for Mac would be to use, MactheRipper to put the dvd
regionfree and unprotected with full menu's on your MAC if you then
want to compress, use DVD2ONE, and then for all your burnings use Toast
7 or 8

This is what works best for me,

Err, why use three programs when two will do?  Both Toast 7 & 8 compress
DVDs very effectively.

There are many cases where the re-authoring one wants to do can be done
with DVD2oneX but not with Toast.
