Can't send email via Mail.app

i get the following message when trying to send an email via mail.app

The server response was: 5.1.2 Bad or missing RCPT domain
c1sm5916038ugf

Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server.
All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your
network settings.

I've checked the outgoing mail sever and all the settings are as they
should be, or as gmail says they should be

btw im using gmail

It's telling you there's a problem with the recipient's domain name.  In
other words, there's a mistake in the address you're attempting to send
to and it's not the proper xxxx@yyyyy.zzz format.
