I want to set-up the wireless router on my Intel based Apple Mac. Do I need
the BT install CD? Does it work with the Apple Mac or can I rely on the Mac's
Airport set-up screens to get me through?
Guidance would be appreciated
Many thanks

What do you mean by "set-up the wireless router"? Do you mean that you
would like to set up an external router using software on your Mac to
control it, or do you want to set up the Mac as a wireless router?
Assuming the first: I am not in the UK (I assume 'BT' means British
Teleom since you have a .uk address), but I would think that the disk
most likely is for Windows computers, but try it anyway. Also, it may
well contain documentation, e.g,. in the form of PDFs or html pages.
Most likely all you'll need is to point your browser to the default IP
address of the router, which should be in there along with any necessary
passwords and so on, and follow the instructions that the CD's docs give
you from there. If it is a non-Apple router, Apple's AirPort Admin
utility will not be able to handle it, AFAIK.
If you mean option #2: This is called "Internet Sharing".
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet.

You might find some other BT Home Hub users over in uk.comp.sys.mac who
can give you precise advice.
Cheers,

Check the documentation. Chances are, that router works via a web site
to configure it. I doubt you need to install that software that came
with it, but the documentation should explain that.

To further expand upon Shawn's comments - most routers have a little
built in web server that is used to provide a web-based interface to
configure the router, access logs, etc.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I'd say it's highly unlikely Apple's Airport software will help you with
a third party WiFi router. Sometimes it will work with WiFi PCI cards if
they use the same chipset as Apple's Airport cards.
But most routers have web-based configuration. Plug the router into your
Mac and see if the router shows up in Network Prefs. Enter the Router's
address into your web browser and you should go to the router's config
screen. Or check your router's documentation for the IP address to go
to. Or just use the BT software you mention.
