What information about each JPEG file to you need the software to store, and how do you want to be able to search, sort, and report on that data? How many JPEGs do you need to store? Well, to be fair, JPEG does not have to be compressed, lossy or otherwise. The OP probably thought that JPEG JFIF was a good idea, but I agree that there are JPEG formats that would be more appropriate.
