I back up an iBook G4 (10.4.8) over an Airport network in the middle of
the night. Sometimes the backup is not done. When I then look at the
Retrospect Client program the Off radio button is selected, even though
I have left it at On. Does anyone know the name of the background
program that must be running to carry out the backup work? I tried
looking for changes in the list of programs in Activity Monitor when I
toggled the software On and Off, but couldn't see any change in the
number of running processes.

If there is a daemon program that must be running, I thought that I
could schedule a check that it is running using Script Timer just before
backup time and start it up if it is not.

I suppose I could use GUI scripting on Retrospect Client to make sure
the On radio button is selected, but would prefer to avoid that if
possible.

Thanks,

Don Hall

The background process used by Retrospect Client is called "pitond".
