I use macsoup, which doesn't appear able to killfile according to
references- e.g. so that a thread started by a particular poster would
be completely ignored. (Can it?) Any ideas for another one? I don't read
binary newsgroups.

It has "Auto-Kill Thread" and "Auto-Kill Sub-Thread" commands, which can
be used manually to prevent you seeing all aritcles in a particular
thread or all followups to a particular posting.

It doesn't appear to be able to set up a kill file entry which matches
part of the Reference header, but it can match on other headers and your
kill file entry can be "Auto-Kill". This would have the effect of
ignoring all threads started by a particular person, as long as you can
find something consistent and unique in other headers (which MacSoup
will look at).

Many thanks for the quick reply. I'd not explored auto-kill at all, and
that's perfect for what I want. Thanks again.
