newsreaders again - not so crazy about Unison, but

I'm looking for a newsreader that is preferably available as a
Universal binary. I've been using Unison for a few days, but it's not
very feature rich for a newsreader. I have been using MT-Newswatcher
(an older version) on my G4 (also running Tiger) for years now and it's
pretty good and very configurable. Is the current version stable on the
core2duo? I have read reports to the effect that it was not.

Hi

When these "which newsreader?" questions come up I generally suggest
Hogwasher.

The trial period for Hogwasher is 60 days. This is very good as
Hogwasher has very many features to explore.

Hogwasher is currently available to run natively on pre-Intel Macs and
runs in Rosetta on Intel Macs, but it is a very badly kept secret that
a universal version is being developed.

Having said that the best thing to do I guess is just try out various
newsreaders until you find one that suits you. I think MT-Newswatcher
is now available as a universal.

If Hogwasher didn't exist I think I'd probably use MT-Newswatcher
myself.

I have a page dedicated to Hogwasher on my humble web-site:

Hogwasher comes from here:

Another vote for the Hog. Damn expensive but I've never looked back. Do check
out Patrick's page.

Thanks for the info, but it costs $50, which is far more than I want to
pay for a newsreader.

I'd bet another $50 that there isn't a single Hog lover that didn't think it
overpriced - sort of. OTOH, there's been damn plenty of us to pay up
nevertheless. I say "sort of" because it does SO much. because of it's
Subscriptions I know it has saved me tons of time.

MacSOUP is cheaper, and I even prefer it in certain respects, but yeah -
Hogwasher is a fine app. Anyway - I certainly feel I've got value for
money after registering MacSOUP years ago for $20. I'd happily have paid
$50 or more! I don't know what you Hog users are complaining about. The
only difference is your developer isn't practically giving away their
excellent newsreader! :-)

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I'm back with the "new" MT-Newswatcher. A lot like the old Newswatcher,
but faster.

Actually, I'm playing with the latest MT-Newswatcher, which is a lot
like the old MT-Newswatcher, except it's a Univesral binary. So far, so
good. Some new features. Same old interface. But it works.
