Open Office

Perhaps Open Office for Mac is not for me! I notice lots of
unsatisfactory things. Better try that Neo one. I mention, in
case it is just my set up. Seems clunky.

It does not like clippings, it has Windows keyboard commands,
copy with control, and seems not happy opening many text docs of
old...

So the Mac version is just barely Mac...

I confess, I rarely use a word processor these days.... but
thought to start moving my invoices from Clarisworks 4 to this in
a general migration away from Classic...

NeoOffice replaces the control key with the command key for almost all
commands. I completely agree with your aggravation about having to use
the control key in OOo. NeoOffice also handles fonts MUCH better than
OOo & the X11 windowing system it runs in. Finally, I just tried
dropping a clipping into a new doc in NeoOffice and it worked just as
it's supposed to (running 10.4.7).

While I DO like NeoOffice a lot, it and OOo are behemoths, just like
M$Office. I actually use TextEdit for most easy docs.

Yes, about the last, me too! I ended up yesterday getting CW 4 up
in Classic and copy pasting to TextEdit and that was fine for my
Invoice template.

I better get this Neo then and chuck OpenOffice (as it slightly
irritates me)

You might want to try TexEdit Plus to replace Apple's TextEdit.  A lot
more capable, although TextEdit has come up in recent years.

Yeah, you'd better.  Grin.  A lot of work has gone into it, and my only
reason of hanging on to AppleWorks 6 is time to learn all the ins and
outs of NeoOffice.  Current version is 2.0 Aqua Beta 3, but don't let
the Beta put you off.  I've already stumbled across a bug in Windows
Excel, I designed a spreadsheet for a client who, of course, uses
Windows, but found that some of the time calculations which worked fine
in NeoOffice gave the incorrect result in Excel.  Erck!

So! NeoOffice out-Offices MS Office... <g>

Will consider TextEdit Plus, thanks for suggestion.

I would also recommend you Abiword --which you can download from
MacLibre <www.maclibre.com/> or
<http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11511>. It's a very robust and
featured word processor, that's is multiplatform and, differently from
OOo or Neo, it's very integrated to the system.

Thank you Carlos. I will take a look.

Please Note!  That's TEXEdit Plus, no second "T" in the name.  It's for
Texas from where the author comes from.  Note the Lone Star flag logo.

Duly noted.
