I actually never got a great connection with the G3 either. But at
least it worked. Guess I'll try an external usb modem for the G4. I
need an ISP that will work with windows and Mac. Any suggestions?

There are tons of them. You didn't mention where in the world you are
located, but just try googling for "Internet Service Provider Mac." Just
off the top of my head, some of the ones that come to mind are
Earthlink, Netzero, AT&T, but there are also a lot of regional dial-up
ISPs.
