ipod to pc transfer

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a simple and free download program
that will allow me to transfer the songs on my (first generation) ipod
to my new pc. They were all on my laptop which got broken and are thus
irretrivable. I have tried one called "longfingers but can't seem to
get it to recognise my ipod when i plug it into my new computer.

That's a perfectly good choice for a Mac, but the OP is a PC user
posting to the wrong group. I'd suggest searching in the Windows area
of versiontracker.com, though.
