iCab bullet scaling...

When viewing local .html files on my machine (Tiger, just before
10.4.8 - I'm just a tad scared of the 4.8 update), the bullet
points in the <li>s don't scale with the font when changing
browser text-size view in iCab (3.0.3) until browser is refreshed
manually. Quite comical effect! But I better not say more until
someone can second this observation.

Sure that's right, if you use the 'Software Update', but if you download
and install the 10.4.8 Combo Update, you don't need to fear anything.

Just say, what you wanna say.:-) - I've observed exactly the same... -
Until yesterday, where I reinstalled iCab on my newly upgraded
QuickSilver and setup all preferences like I wanted them to be. While
setting prefs, I suddenly noticed that iCab refreshed itself
automatically without having to press the 'Reload' button. - I observed
the same on my OS 9.2.2, where I also have iCab 3.0.3. - Both on OS 9.x
and X, I use iCab to identify itself as MSIE 6.0 for Windows to be able
to view some IE specific websites... On Os 9.2.2 it's a 'must' to press
the reload button to obtain new settings. - And just for fun, I've now
tried it again to change font sizes in OS X version, - this time - again
- no auto-refreshing with new settings...

cheers, Erik Richard

Hi Eric, I gave up using the auto update a long time back, I
"download only" and update at my leisure from the particular
package concerned. True, I go via the update OS X software. You
seem to be suggesting not even to do this? To get the combo from
the Apple site? I have rarely had trouble doing my way, it is
just I have heard a few things from people about trouble they
have had with 4.8 and I am so pleased with my set up that I am
holding back from actually installing the already downloaded
package...

mmm... a bug in iCab then because it should not need refreshing
to scale text and bullets too... I will fire something off to
iCab (not that they will be able reproduce it! But they are good
people and take things seriously. It does not always happen. I
will observe more closely the effect of different html and css on
this...)

Yes, I'll recommend the use of the ComboUpdate downloaded from the Apple
software site and not the 'Client Update'. Using the combo update will
also 'go back' in the software and update everything that might not be
fully updated using the client update.

I know that the combos are more than twice the size of the client
versions, but I find it worth using the combo updates. I have never had
any trouble when using the combo updates, but sometimes smaller or
larger problems either using the client versions or the automatically
Software Update, which only updates the most needed things. - The
'Software Update' is based on the client version of the updates from Apple.

I have also read and seen people having some troubles with the 10.4.8,
but reading 995 of these postings in the groups that I'm subscribing to,
I can see that most of these problems are related to either G5 1,8ghz+,
PB G4s or MacIntel based computers and not 'normal' G4 stationary machines.

Just yesterday I setup an older Dual G4/500mhz with 10.4.8 and it works
great, - no problems at all. OK, it's also a totally clean install on a
brand new HD...

Good idea! I too know that they'll appreciate this. - Smaller companies
like iCab and Opera are always listening more to what we - the users -
can come up with. - It's also us, who are the 'real testers'.:-))
