I am using 10.4.8 on an Intel Mini. The Address Book has data, but
seems to be locked.  I can't Edit or add cards.  In Mail when I try to
add an address from a message it appears to work but the entry doesn't
go anywhere.  I am using Address Book on two older iBooks also with
Tiger.  Everything works fine on those G3 computers.   Suggestions?

Look in ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/AddressBook. How are the
permissions there? Is there a lockfile there? m.

Checked further.  Got it! I found that permissions were set to system
on the application.  The problem was not in the Library.

Thanks much.

Incorrect permissions on the app would have been fixed by doing a
permissions repair, so I'd say that should be your next step. m.

Try restarting from your OS install disc, opening Disk Utility,
repairing the drive and more importantly in this case - repair
permissions. Repeat these two things till no errors are encountered.
