Firefox problem

Using the latest Firefox on the very latest OSX. I'm using it to input
text into a data-management tool that feeds into a major "how-it-works"
website, part of the publishing process. the tool has various places to
put chunks of text, and often it won't let me move the cursor from one
place to another. i'll input text, then try to click on the next box
(there is no option for tabbing my way there -- tool's too crude), and
it ignores me. how do i "fix" it? by yellow-dotting the whole window to
the dock and then bringing it back. this is the kind of hinky-dinky
solution to a ticky-tacky problem that makes me feel silly even doing
it -- it's so graceless. i wondered if the problem has to do with the
tool being momentarily disconnected from the main server, but the
"solution" i've hit on suggests it's a problem in how Firefox (or this
lousy tool) is reacting to my own computer.

Any thoughts?

Hmm... sounds strange. It sounds like it could be an issue with the
actual HTML form on the page - which means it would have nothing to do
with Firefox at all. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to manually
put the cursor into the next text box. I am thinking it is just a
poorly set-up web page that you are accessing...

I'm told I'm the only person having this problem among their network of
at-home data-input folks. But they've admitted this tool is buggy
overall. In my case, I'll have finished with the text in one box
(usually the main text box) and when I want to move to the next one, it
simply doesn't recognize my effort (via moving the cursor manually) to
do so. The weird thing is that the problem goes away the minute I send
the file to the dock and bring it back, as if my browser needs a
refresh on some superficial level to shuck the problem.

Please don't top-post.

I've found Firefox to be a extremely buggy. It crashes regularly on web
sites that render just fine in other browsers, including the mozilla
home page.

At this point I've discarded it as too unreliable for regular use, and
gone back to Safari.

Strange, I find it to be very reliable; I have it stuffed
full of extensions too. FF 1.5.0.7, OS X 10.4.8

I keep Safari as third choice; for me FF is top, Opera next.

Meanwhile I stopped using FF for general browsing when it started
swallowing bookmarks. I've no idea where they got to, but I got stuck
with just 3 of my own items, and no more.

Safari as the default, with Java and Javascript disabled. I was using FF
for those sites which require JS, but have recently been using Opera.

Not forgetting the occasional use of Lynx :-)

The worst that's happened with mine so far is that I've lost the status bar
and have spent the last couple of days trying to find out how to get it
back.

mine's buggy as hell. i only posted about the most frustrating one. the
drop-down/auto-fill function of the URL bar is whacked. it likes to
hiccup and turn up an inch lower, unconnected to the rest of the
browser. when i go to use it, it disappears and i have to go back up
and start the process over again in the URL bar.  one more curiousity:
at any spot in the publishing tool i'm working with, when autofill
begins a phrase or URL for you, you can't complete the process by
hititing Tab. that just leaves the partially filled text dangling
there. i suspect that's a problem with the HTML, not firefox. (?)

I find it to be extremely reliable as well.

My only complaints about FireFox, and there may well be solutions for
all I know, are that it doesn't "do services" so for example Apple's
spell checker doesn't work in it.

Also it doesn't use the Keychain for passwords but keeps them in its
own database.

For these reasons I normally have Safari as default web browser.

I actually have quite a number of web browsers on this Intel iMac.

As an aside I think I'll mention the excellence of URL Manager Pro
which has been recently updated a little. I mention this because with
URL Manager Pro you can keep all your bookmarks in it and it will open
them in whatever browser is front-most so it doesn't matter so much
which is the "default browser".

I've used URL Manager Pro for years actually, it and File Buddy are the
two utilities I've used consistently for a very long time indeed.

Firefox works great for me 100% of the time
(MacBook, OS X 10.4.8). Have you tried a re-install?

Twice.

It's no big deal, as I don't particularly like FF's interface to begin
with. And for web testing, Windows IE is what 85% of our customers are
using, so testing for FF compatibility is comparatively low on the
list.

I know other people are using FF with success, and really like it.
That's cool. I don't have a compelling enough need for it to be
bothered trying to track down the problems.
