Is there an application out there that:

1) keeps track of what I've installed on my Mac
and
2) keeps track of which files are installed where  ?

This sort of thing comes in handy when I want to back up my system
and/or reformat and reinstall everything on my drive etc.

Alternatively, a program that lets me enter this information manually,
but automatically adds a time-stamp (time/date) every time I add
something new.

I've already had a look at versiontracker, but couldn't find anything.

If the application was installed using Apple's Installer, there will be
a receipts file in /Library/Receipts, the list of installed files can be
obtained with:
lsbom -f /Library/Receipts/<name of package>/Contents/Archive.bom
where <name of package> is the name of the receipts package

Check version tracker. For item #1, it seems to me the easiest way to do
that is to always install stuff in the Applications folder, then just
look there to see what's installed.

One solution would be to tweak one of those "uninstaller" programs, but
I don't remember any name. Maybe by searching "uninstall" in MacUpdate?

I'm no programmer so tweaking is out of the question. I need something
that works out of the box, or like I said, a "text editor" or diary
sort of program that allows me to manually input whatever I've
installed/removed but to ease things time-stamps every new input.

by "tweaking" I didn't mean any programming but rather, using the
uninstaller only for the purpose of accessing its log record...
