Waiting on Adobe after the Switch

I recently made the switch from PC to Mac and have been hitting a few
road bumps along the way.  Mainly I'm looking for Universal apps that
could replace Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver at least for a
short term quick fix before CS3 comes out.  Most of the threads I've
found about this are from Q1ish of this year.  Any new contenders out
there?

I don't want to go the boot camp route because I bought my iMac for the
OS as much as the hardware.  Plus I'm trying to keep my life as
Microsoft free as possible.  No, that is not a 360 sitting by my
television - it's a weather balloon.  Quit looking.  Seriously.

I know Rosetta can run those apps, but I don't really want to sink that
much money in a product that isn't going to run as fast as it could.  I
also (probably irrationally, but I am none the less) am apprehensive
about X11 apps like GIMP.  They just don't feel all polished for OSX.
Any favorites among the group?

Unlike many others, I don't believe GIMP is a truly viable substitute
for Photoshop (it's good, but ...).

Probably the closest substitute is Photoshop Elements 4. Now, this is
also not Universal, so you'd be employing Rosetta, but it's only about
$80 -- thus not a large investment.

For a web design and illustration, you might want to take a look at
Stone Design's "Create 12." The folks at Stone do a really good job and
they advertise "free updates for life" (and they've been doing so since
OS X was released).

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Check out http://www.versiontracker.com which is a great resource for
finding Mac software. So is the Mac OS X downloads section of Apple's
web site.
