Each every time the quote symbol ( " ) is used within the e-mail, it
inserts (..") instead. When I forward an email, no one can read
it...does the (") change to (") due to hotmail, msn, mac osx,
int. explorer????? can someone help me?
thanks.

Robin, I'd like to help but can't seem to emulate your problem. I've
looked at both Hotmail and IE but there doesn't seem to be a facility
for sending HTML mail.

Are you keying in direct or copying/pasting from formatted text?

Hi John, thanks so much for replying. I'll have to check what someone
gets if I key in but I know it happens if I forward something or
someone forwards to me...msn was NO help at all, they're clueless!
But it happens all the time...I'll send something even to a PC and all
they see is &quot I guess whenever they're "'s (quote marks). I've
checked preferences, etc. but I don't know if it starts somewhere else
and MAC changes it or ???

Thanks! robin

Hi John,

Robin here, the "quote" person needing help! I wrote you back via
google but now I see your email, hope it's ok to write you...I thank
you for responding! I have seen emails come to me like this and when
I forward something, they can't read it because of the
&quot......whether it's a mac or pc. I have a mac osx. And just now,
I copied a word doc into a site I'm creating and the "s and 's came
out wrong again, this time with a different number:

This show had some captivating moments from Lauren’s version of
“Falling”,

that's suppose to be Lauren's and "Falling" what's going
on??? any help is soooo appreciated!

Thanks,

Robin Rose

John,

By accident I think I found the correction however it may cause
another problem. In IE preferences under Web Content,
Active Content I unchecked ENABLE SCRIPTING. I then copy/pasted from
word to my web site and tada! no more $quot or #8210 or
whatever...but....this is disabling JavaScript isn't it...so what will
not be available to me?

No, I'm using an old account that's closed. It's an antispam measure.
Sorry.

I'm beginning to understand now. It's only when you copy/paste from a
Word file.

Leave the enable scripting turned on. If your browser doesn't read
scripts like Javascript then you might miss important content on
webpages.

If you wish to forward text from a Word file then you'll have to
change the smart quotes (the curly ones) to dumb quotes (the straight
ones that resemble the symbols for feet and inches).

In Word go under the Tools menu click on AutoCorrect... and open the
AutoFormat tab. Uncheck the box Replace "Straight quotes" with "smart
quotes"

[I actually keyed in smart quotes enclosing the words "smart quotes"
but they came out straight! Amusing.]

This ought to fix things.

Thanks John , I'll certainly do that, however, it's not simply from
Word to internet or mail....I received a beautiful email letter from
my daughter, hit forward to send to my Dad and it was near impossible
to read with all the &quots.....and I don't see an Auto Correct in
Explorer, so I still think it has something to do with Java...or do I
have to put every letter I get into Word first before resending,
replying or forward??

Thanks, Robin

Sorry, Robin, this has me beat! Maybe somebody else here can help. If
I could emulate the problem on my own Mac then I might have a fix, but
no. HTML tags appearing for no good reason? I don't know....

One last question though. I assumed you were sending and receiving
mail from the Hotmail website -- as I am -- and not via an email
client such as Mail, Entourage, Eudora etc. Is this true?

YES, HOTMAIL THROUGH INTERNET EXPLORER NOT ENTOURAGE, ETC. OR LIKE I
WROTE, WHEN I COPIED FROM SAY A WORD DOC INTO MY WEB CONTENT IT CAME
OUT ALL MESSED UP LIKE I SHOWED YOU ANYTIME THERE WAS AN ' OR " I
THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH ANYTHING ONLINE, THAT'S WHY WHEN I TURNED
ENABLE SCRIPT OFF AND COPIED AND PASTED AGAIN, IT WAS FINE BUT THEN,
OF COURSE, I COULDN'T OPEN ANY EMAIL AS IT IS ACTUALLY TURNING OFF
JAVASCRIPT I GUESS. MAYBE ONE DAY THIS WK. I'LL STOP BY THE MAC STORE
IN THE MALL, (YEA, THOSE GUYS ARE BRANIACS, NOT!...THEY COULDN'T HELP
MY SON WITH HIS NEW IBOOK AND BIG PROBLEMS WITH IPHOTO). THAT'S WHY I
STARTED HERE. THANKS AGAIN...IF YOU THINK OF ANYTHING OR YOU KNOW
SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP, YOU HAVE MY EMAIL..THANKS AGAIN! RR
