I went to the Earthlink Site to get my Email and found the following message
at the site:

"ATTENTION! Does your Web browser support 128-bit encryption?
If not, you will soon lose access to Web Mail! For details, click here."

I am using Internet Explorer 5.1.4.  I know it's old, but it works for me
very well.  Literature presented at the "click here" mentions that the IE
5.1.4 does not have this "encryption".  What is all this about and what will
I have to do to upgrade?  I am using a PowerMac G4 with OS 9.0.4, 1 Gb RAM.

There's a way in the IE docs to check your encryption level.
I forget the details (I think you check Security and Certificates,
or something like that). Anyway, I have 5.1.7 and 128-bit encryption.
If you downloaded IE in the US you likely have 128-bit
