mixed up type and invisible characters

My Internet Explorer 5.1 on my iMac is filled with gobbled up
characters.  Someone said this is invisible characters.  Help!!!! How
do I get rid of these.  I am putting in a sample here:

Can you try deleting the ie preferences file it would get recreated once you
launch IE agian

I have the same problem, but most of the times it happens with the
websites in spanish. you said that we can try to delete the
preferences file, since I am not a regular mac user, I am not sure
which one is the preference file. I deleted a folder named preferences
inside the Explorer 5.1.7 folder, but it did not recreate or fix
anything. I also tried to reinstall this program but it would still
not fix the problem. I have this problem since I updated my system
from OS 9.0 through 9.2.2. Can you guys please assist me?
