Forwarding e-mail--garbled

Every time I forward an e-mail message, it becomes garbled.  The
following "symbols" get dropped in throughout the e-mail:

                        &gt       &amp        gt        amp
quot

A "techie" friend of mine suggested that I may have changed some
setting from "Plain Text" to "HTML," because the above symbols are
used in HTML programming.  My problem is that I cannot find out where
to change the setting to determine if that is going to fix the issue.

Might anyone have a thought on whether or not that "fix" should work
and, if so, where do I go to change the settting?

(FYI:  I am running Mac OS X v 10.2.8 and IE for Mac v 5.2.3)

Thank you, in advance,
RS

What email program are you using? Internet Explorer is a web browser.

Are you trying to Forward Hotmail messages while logged in at
hotmail.com?

Yes, I use Hotmail through hotmail.com.  (One addition note: the
problem I described above happens when I am Forward or Reply.)

Thanks
