(The following advice applies to OS X 10.2 and has not been tested on other
versions of OS X.)
Open System Preferences from the Apple menu, and then click the Network
Preferences button. Click the "PPP" tab, and then click the "PPP Options
button. Check the option to "Connect automatically when needed," and click
OK. In the resulting window, click the "Apply Now" button, and quit System
Preferences. Internet Explorer should now try to establish a connection if
you request to load a Favorite when an internet connection is not active.

OSX 10.3.4
Dear Mickey - thanks, but there is strange behaviour:
if the site's already in IE and you click its favourite button or an object
in the site to reconnect, it will either get the Mac to reconnect to the
internet without activating the site, or it will say it can't find the site.
If the site is not already in IE when you click the favourite button, you
get the SPOD and nothing happens.
So, partial success only! Will

My biased advice is to scrap 5.2.3 and go with 5.1.3.... too many problems
with the newest version.

I'm returning to this topic sorry! because I still can't get OS 10.3.4
running Explorer 5.2.3 to log on to a site - any site - via Explorer. Thanks
to Mickey, clicking, say, a favourite will now connect me to the internet...
but not to the favourite site itself, which I have to click again (meanwhile
a message appears to say that the site could not be found). A previous
Explorer in OS 9.2 did not have this problem - what am I doing wrong?
Doesn't everyone else have this weird behaviour? Thanks. PS
