Java Problems with IE 5.1.7 MMJ 2.2.5

Hey all

I have hit a wall and I'm banging my head against it. Here's the problem:

I have a G4 running OS 9.2 loaded with tje Java MMJ 2.2.5 and Internet
Explorer 5.1.7 and Java refuses to run.
If I visit a site that uses java for example http://www.stgeorge.com.au and
click the 'login' button for internet banking - nothing happens. The status
bar shows that the link is trying to load javascript:Login(1) but I can
click it forever and it has no effect (it's supposed to load a second
window with the netbanking logon screen).
I have looked in the edit:preferences:java and everything seems to be just
fine, tick boxes match exactly the configurations of other macs here that
work fine with the same installed software.
I have deleted all reference to IE and re-installed it. I have re-installed
the Java MMJ. I have rebooted numerous times. I am now getting a headache
from the wall banging and the bricks are starting to work their way loose.

As an act of desparation I am installing OS 10.2 just to see if that will
work, but of course now expect it to break all my OS 9 apps.

Has anyone come across this before and is able to point me in a direction,
any direction away from this damnable wall.

Many Thanks in advance.

Cameron, did you resolve this issue?
I have the same prob - no javascript will run. This is with IE5.1.6 on a
G3/266 OS9.2.2. Scripting is enabled. I use the same app on several other
old Macs and none exhibit this issue.

Hi Gary,
I just joined - you'll see my problem post soon :º) - but I saw on
another site that several people who had problems with 2.2.5 had
everything cleared up with an older version - it was either 2.1.2 or
2.1.3, which you can download from:

http://developer.apple.com/java/download.html

Scroll down, the older ones are kind of orphaned at the bottom. I'll
try to find it again; I didn't bookmark it, and my usually legible
scribble was halfway between a 2 and a 3 in my notes.

Thanks Johnno.

However, I think MRJ is for Java, whereas the problem I have (and the OP)
is with javascript.
Nevertheless that was a useful URL, and for the record I have tried MRJ
2.1.4, 2.2.3 & 2.2.5. They had no impact on javascript, albeit 2.1.4 adds
some problems of it's own!

Thanks Mickey, deleting the PPC Registration Database fixed it. Should
have thought of that myself as used that technique in the past to fix
probs with Office 98 apps.
