IE 5.1.7 instability

Has anyone else noticed a growing instability in Mac IE 5.1.7 over the last
few months? For me, it's been crashing a whole lot more and generally
behaving more "quirky". I've exhausted all troubleshooting ideas I can think
of (re-installed OS and application, removed preferences, reduced system
folder clutter, pulled out unused IE plugins), but it still freaks out. Any
other ideas?

Since you're using IE 5.1.7, I'm assuming you're also using it with Mac
OS 9.2.2 or earlier.

Try bumping up the memory allotment for IE to around 40 MB. That's the
insane amount of memory I eventually ended up with were it ran about 98%
crash free.
