I have a Mac 6500/250 and 128MB of RAM.

When I download a file it initially starts downloading at something like
200KB/sec according to Download Manager, but then slows down over the next
minute or so to 9 or 8MB/sec and even slower sometimes.  And this is over a
functioning cable modem.  Adelphia is the cable co. in West Hollywood CA. I
checked out Netscape 4.79 and it downloads at a blazing 200K/second.

Anything I can do to get this 200K/sec downloading speed in IE?

I've already trashed TCP/IP preferences and restarted.  It still slows down.

thank you.

Nathan,

This download speed issue has been brought up many times in the past and
although nothing has ever been officially announced on the subject,
experimental evidence does suggest very strongly that Netscape's download
speeds are far superior to those of IE.

Some other options...

1) Use iCab, as suggested by Harri, http://www.icab.de/dl.php

2) Search http://www.versiontracker.com/macos/ for HTTP download manager
softwares

IDM is best download prog
This prog is the best I have ever used. It has everything I need easy
to access such as pausing which is very easy. Small file size and very
fast and customizable. I can build up as many things for download as I
want and then download them all in one sweep where 2 are being
downloaded one gets done and the other queried one start ect. I
recommend this for any situation but a must have if you download a lot

I have always used Interarchy's "HTTP Download" option when I know a
link is to a file and the file is large. IE downloads are notoriously
slow.
