For some odd reason, IE 5.2.3 will not run on my G5 Dual 2 GHz Mac. It
acts like it is starting, but then just disappears. I am running Mac OS X
10.3.2. I watched the console when I clicked on the icon, and the
following line appears each tim e I try to start IE:
## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component
alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)
Does this make any sense to anyone? I have removed IE (and all related
files in the library) and re-installed it numerous times. Any help would
be appreciated. (Since MS doesn't give any help on their site, I thought
I'd ask here. Explorer isn't listed under their apps in their support
section, go figure.)

IIRC, that error is related to having the Toast Video CD plugin installed
(version 5 only). It's harmless and almost certainly has nothing to do
with your problem.

Drag Macintosh HD/Users/<Problematic
User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist and
com.microsoft.explorer.plist to the Desktop. Re-launch Internet Explorer
and see if it crashes. If it still crashes, move the Internet Preferences
files back. If the problem is fixed, you can trash the Internet Preferences
files.
If that doesn't help, try moving the Macintosh HD/Users/<Your
User>/Library/Preferences/Explorer to the Desktop and see if that helps. If
so, drag the "Favorites.html" file into the new Explorer folder within the
Preferences folder, and delete the rest. If it still crashes, move the
folder back.
Make sure you have the latest OS version. I believe the latest version of
Panther is 10.3.2.
If that doesn't help, try repairing permissions.
For OS 10.2/10.3:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".
Run Disk First Aid. Instructions on how to run it in OS X are located on
the Apple Knowledge Base.

You might also want to try deleting HD/Users/<Your User>/Library/Caches/MS
Internet Cache.
