Hello, I am using Mac os 10.2.6 and IE 5.2 worked perfectly. Then all
of sudden couldn't launch it kept saying unexpectedly quit message so
I upraded to 5.2.3 still same thing happens. I deleted and reinstalled
again, no change. I saw someone post same problem and did their
solution of disk utility running repair permissions from boot up it
said a lot of messages and it repaired but IE still does not launch. I
downloaded netscape and to my surprise I get same message
"unexpectedly quits", the only browser working now is safari. but on
some sites I use they require IE or netscape to access site. Does
anybody know why all of sudden this is happening and how to fix it.
Please email me scarab21@optonline.net.

Delete the following file and try again...

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist

Before reading your message I followed another advice of deleting
preference file and all IE and install again, did not work. Now I went
to library preference like you said and did not find
com.apple.internetconfig.plist

Thanks, Abbie

I'm having this problem too.  I narrowed it down to the "QuickTime
Plugin.plugin" file in "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins".  Remove this file, IE
starts.  Put it back in, crashes on startup.  I've tried deleting all the
prefs to no avail.  I think this is related to QT 6.4, but I have reinstalled
IE and QT and the problem persists.  Any ideas?

Try creating a new user account and give IE a try.  Denis

I am having this same problem.  I suspect that it's an attempt by apple
to keep us with their Safari system....Anyway, have any of these
techniques solved your problem Abbie??  Look forward to your insight.

Having the same problem.  Attempted to find the plug in but could not.
Tried to put QT in trash restart the computer and try IE and that did
not work.  I've reloaded IE a couple of times.

I've noticed when I attempt to launch IE it goes through the motions
but seems invisable.  My cable internet connection appears to be
working and downloading something when I launch IE but nothing pops on
the screen.

When I do a force quit sometimes the explorer is in red.

Thanks.

Look again.  Open your Hard Drive, then go to HD/Users/<Your User>.  From
their (your Home), navigate to Library/Preferences, and test to see if
com.apple.internetconfig.plist is corrupt.

I have the same problem, IE was quitting on startup, all of the
sudden.
So I downlowded 5.2.3, still the same problem.   Then I upgraded
OS10.3 Panther, still same problem, IE quits on startup.
Now Netscape 7.1 quits intermittently with Panther.
I have deleted the internetconfig.plist file and started the browser.
IE still quits and a new internetconfig.plist file has been created.

I have no idea what to do. No info is available from Apple and I see
others in forums with same problem but no solution yet.

Help! And Thanks!

What about killing these files...?

~/Library/Caches/MS Internet Cache
~/Library/Preferences/Explorer/History.html

~/Library/Preferences/LSApplications
~/Library/Preferences/LSClaimedTypes
~/Library/Preferences/LSSchemes

In addition, have you run the Disk Utility application to repair your HD and
update any permissions issues?

I'm interested in resolving these IE issues - I certainly need to know of
any specific issues that arise around using IE on Panther.

Ricky

I had the same problem, sorted mine by changing my DHCP settings under
"built in ethernet" from "Using DHCP with Manual ip address" to just "Using
DHCP" not sure how this affects things but that¹s the only change I made and
it now works :)

Hate to sound like a broken record, but I have the same problem with
IE AND Entourage X (when it attempts to load HTML e-mail messages it
quits "unexpectedly"). I've done a search on my iBook for
com.apple.internetconfig.plist file and it doesn't even exist on my
computer. I noticed this problem with IE & Entourage right after I
loaded Safari on my Mac. Half-thinking it's Microsoft's way of
punishing me for using Apple's browser.

on some sites I use they require IE or netscape to access site.

I don't know how to tell what browsers a given site requires. Other than an
error message about using the wrong browser, is there a standard place to
check on a website to find out what browser(s) are required?

Thanks.

John .
