I got a used mac from a friend, the same G3 I already had.  I was
trying to tweek it and install new programs and such, so I can donate
it to a childcare afterschool program near me.  Anyway, they had IE
installed, so I skipped ahead and installed everything else.
Everything works, but there's a password for the Ratings settings,
which NEED to be set for the children.  I don't know the password, the
person who gave me the computer doesn't know it, and I can't seem to
get it to reset.
I've tried trashing IE, MS files and everything else I can think of.
NOTHING has been able to reset to password.
Does anyone know how to do this?  I've tried the few things suggested,
the things I've seen on here, and none of them work.  The password has
to be stores in a file, somewhere..I just can't find which file it's
stored in!

Any help would be great!

Hi Beth,

I'm still trying to find a definitive answer on this.  Running the Microsoft
Internet First Run application (if it is still present on the machine) will
resolve the issue for Classic OS.  The problem with that of course is that
the MIFR software was only bundled with the original IE 5 installation, so
there's every chance that you don't have it.  If you wish, I can put the
necessary MIFR installer up on some Webspace for you to download.  E-mail me
if you're interested (note that the download will be approximately 3Mb in
size.)

As far as OS X goes, I really have no solution to offer - from my efforts to
bypass the Ratings password, I've not been able to find a suitable
workaround.

Hrm, I would email you if i had your proper email :)  But yes, if you
could put up that file for me somewhere, that would be great!  And I'm
running 9.2.2 so no worries about the OSX :)
Thanks!
